The Lord’s Day bread-breaking meeting is of profound significance to a Christian because it is the only meeting that was established by the Lord when He was on earth. The Bible records in Matthew 26:26-28 that on the night before His crucifixion, after taking the feast of the Passover with His disciples, Jesus instituted the Lord’s table with the bread and the cup. He blessed the bread, broke it and gave it to the disciples to eat, saying that this is His body. Then He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to the disciples to drink, saying that this is the blood of the new covenant, which is being poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. The Lord also charged the disciples to do this unto the remembrance of Him.
The Church in Richmond has consistently followed the Lord’s instruction in having the bread-breaking meeting every Lord’s Day. Originally, we only had a morning meeting for the Lord’s table. Since June 17, 2012, when our new meeting hall was used for the first time, the Lord has been blessing us with a steady increase in number. Now our Lord’s table meeting is held in two sessions, morning from 9:30 to 11:30 AM and afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Five districts meet in the morning and four districts meet in the afternoon. In the meetings, all the believers can freely use any language to pray, sing, praise, remember the Lord, and worship the Father.
One of our meetings is always conducted in English, both morning and afternoon. The other district meetings are conducted in Chinese, and in the future, other languages as well, as the need arises. The Lord has called us out of every tongue, nation, and people to constitute His Body, the Church. We affirm our commitment to this testimony in truth and in practice by meeting as the members of the Body of Christ and as the branches of the true vine, bearing fruit by spreading the gospel to our friends, neighbors, relatives, and all the seeking ones in the world. We cordially welcome everyone who desires to gain salvation and every Christian who desires to have fellowship, to come and enjoy the feast of our Lord Jesus Christ together with us, and to obtain grace from our “Savior God, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the full knowledge of the truth.” (1 Tim. 2:3-4)
